Aesthetic Medical Practitioner #24
As many of you know, I am passionate about the classics and never has the philosopher Heraclitus of Ephesus’s words Panta Rhei been more relevant than today: the only constant is change.
The whole world is in a state of flux and thankfully Australia has been a world leader in dealing with the pandemic – we are lucky to live on the only island continent so we can to some extent control the spread of COVID-19. Our Victorian friends are finally free to open their businesses and some semblance of normality is returning, even though the economy could take years to recover. Reports of booming business in aesthetics are common – attributed to the ‘zoom
boom’ and also the fact that since nobody can travel, there is more disposable income to, well, dispose of. And what better way than to spend it on ourselves? Research has repeatedly shown that looking good ‘self-perceived’ leads to increased self-confidence and feelings of happiness. And we could all do with a dose of that at the moment!
Jumping from enhanced ‘exteriors’ to the latest ‘interiors’, in this issue we have a feature on the interiors of some amazing clinics around the world (page 58) – it seems even being surrounded by beautiful things makes us feel better. There is a science to fitting out a clinic and we share some interior design secrets to be aware of when designing yours.
Our article on ageism in the workplace (page 34) investigates the reasons many baby boomers lie about their age and the unconscious prejudices many employers have, and how to combat them.
We also have an update on the current status of BIA-ALCL to see where the medical community is at with its treatment, risk assessments and research.
Plus on page 116 we look at the 10 transforming medical advancements and healthcare innovations anticipated for the coming year by clinicians and researchers from the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic. And, as usual, our Products and Services pages are packed with information about the latest technologies on the market (from page 68).
It is now only a few months leading up to COSMEDICON 2021 in March where you will finally be able to attend a face-to-face conference and interact with colleagues and friends and look at these devices and advances yourself at the trade exhibits. Read a preview on page 28 to see just some of the exciting speakers who have already committed to speaking on the scientific program.
This is the final issue for 2020 so here’s to a wonderful year of rebirth and positive change in 2021. Happy New Year and stay safe.
